No. 21 Stanford beats San Jose State 20-17

(AP) ? For almost eight months, Jordan Williamson shouldered the responsibility for sending Andrew Luck and an elite class of Stanford seniors out with a Fiesta Bowl loss.

With the program unable to lean on Luck anymore, Williamson booted back all the blame that would've came the Cardinal's way on his rejuvenated right foot.

Williamson kicked a career-long 46-yard field goal and the go-ahead score from 20 yards, saving No. 21 Stanford in a 20-17 win over San Jose State on Friday night in its first game since Luck's departure.

"I feel like I finally put everything from the past in the past and now I can focus on the future," a smiling Williamson said. "It was a tremendous feeling."

Williamson, who missed three field goals ? including a potential game-winner in regulation ? in a 41-38 overtime loss to Oklahoma State on Jan. 2, might have been the only one with a reason to hold his head down following that fantastic effort from both sides.

Now he might be the only Stanford player who should hold his head high after a shaky start this season.

Former backup Josh Nunes threw for 125 yards and a touchdown in his first start in place of Luck, the NFL's No. 1 overall draft pick. While the redshirt junior finished 16 for 26 with no interceptions, he struggled to move the offense when it counted and it almost cost the Cardinal (1-0) dearly.

"We were close to doing a lot of really good things tonight," Nunes said. "But close doesn't always win football games."

It usually loses them.

The David Fales-Blake Jurich quarterback combo gave Stanford fits until De'Leon Eskridge fumbled in Spartans (0-1) territory late in the third quarter. That set up Williamson's tiebreaking kick, giving the redshirt sophomore a small stroke of redemption after months of public silence and tissues and tears back home.

"That shows the kind of person he is," said Stanford's Stepfan Taylor, who ran for 116 yards and a touchdown. "That's a lot of pressure, and missing them in the Fiesta Bowl you know all the pressure is going to be on him. He's cold blooded."

So was San Jose State's passing game.

Fales threw for 216 yards with one touchdown and an interception that landed in the hands of Ed Reynolds with 71 seconds remaining to seal Stanford's victory. Jurich ran for 32 yards and a score.

The fight Stanford showed so many times behind Luck dissolved.

With the two-time Heisman Trophy finalist now with the Indianapolis Colts, the Cardinal converted only 2 of 13 third downs (although it was 2 for 3 on fourth downs) and allowed the Spartans to move methodically at times down field. San Jose State outgained Stanford 288 to 280 total yards.

Stanford beat San Jose State 57-3 last year and has won five straight meetings.

"Since we got our butts kicked here last year, we could have won every game since," third-year San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre said. "So we're making progress. We're getting bigger, stronger and faster. We're making strides. But in no way, shape or form is this a moral victory. We're a better football team, but we have to finish it off."

Taylor ran for 38 yards almost untouched until a defender tackled him on the game's first drive. Remound Wright converted a fourth-and-1 from the 10-yard line, and Taylor dived over the pile for a 1-yard TD on fourth down to give Stanford a 7-0 lead.

Nunes quickly led Stanford down field again and tossed a perfect ball in the corner on a stop-and-go route by Drew Terrell for an 11-yard score and his first career touchdown pass.

The first-game hiccups eventually surfaced, though, and bubbling later than expected until they almost completely popped Stanford's season.

Game-clock management became an issue on Stanford's final drive of the first half, tossing a short pass over the middle to tight end Zach Ertz, then throwing incomplete and running on third down to settle for a field goal. Williamson, who tore a groin muscle last October and was never the same when he returned, made his career-high 46-yarder as time expired to extend Stanford's lead to 17-3.

"He's healthy, he's confident and he's kicking the ball well," Stanford coach David Shaw said.

Added Williams: "I was excited that the coaches threw me out there and let me hit it. Distance was not an issue."

All the same problems that plagued the Cardinal defense in losses last year to Oregon and Oklahoma State ? no cornerback coverage, poor open-field tackling and quarterback pressure when it counts ? looked even worse with two new starting safeties.

Jurich ran for a short touchdown on San Jose State's first possession of the third quarter and Fales floated a 21-yard touchdown pass to Noel Grigsby to tie the score at 17-all late in the third quarter.

Fales, who transferred from Monterey Peninsula Community College in the spring, redshirted at Nevada in 2009 but quickly had San Jose State in position for the season's first shocking upset.

One mistake ended all that.

Reynolds stripped Eskridge on a pitch play, and Usua Amanam recovered the fumble at San Jose State's 38-yard line. Stanford's offense stalled again, and Williamson made his second field goal.

San Jose State stuffed Taylor on fourth-and-1 with fewer than 7 minutes to play, sending MacIntyre jumping and high-fiving all over the sideline and on the field. Fales and the offense failed to even get a first down on the next two possessions and Reynolds stepped in front of his final pass to close out San Jose State's rally.

San Jose State, which went 5-7 last year after posting a 1-12 record in 2010, has not beaten a ranked team since a 27-24 win over No. 9 TCU at Spartan Stadium on Nov. 4, 2000. They're winless against 20 ranked teams since.

"It was real close," Taylor said. "But close will get you beat in a heartbeat."

Lolos Lee to swing back in the Coral Champion Stakes ? Heat 2

The five-year-old under charge of trainer, Paul Young, Lolos Lee, has not really been consistent recently but she has maintained a certain bench mark beyond which her rankings have not deteriorated. She is easily one of the strongest links in the line-up of the second heat of the Coral Champion Stakes which will be held at Romford over 575 metres flat on Friday, 31st August. Taking the challenge for getting the connections the ?175 prize money are six highly versatile hounds.

The race will be contested by Droopys Robles, Risky Rosaleen, Brinkleys Flyer, Ballintine Molly and Longwood Fantasy.

The dark bitch bagged the very first opportunity of the current season on 29th February, 2012 at Romford over 400 metres. She broke into an early pace after exiting the first trap, raced by the rails and then led from the first position, making it to the other end of the wire in 24.68 seconds.

Millwards Star was the quickest to follow the winner beyond the wire.

After a training session, Lolos Lee won the Grade A1 400 metres flat on 21st March, 2012 at Romford over 400 metres. Despite the fact that she bumped, the five-year-old settled the race in 24.40 seconds and won by the margin of 1 ? lengths.

Finishing the closest to the winner was, Spirited Black.

After failing to strike a hat-trick, the black bitch out of, Lolos Choice, won the Grade A1 400 metres flat on 5th February, 2012 at Romford. It took her 24.61 seconds to make it beyond the wire and won by the margin of two lengths.

During August, Brett Lee?s daughter won two out of the four outings that she undertook.

Lolos Lee won the Grade S1 575 metres flat race on 11th August, 2012 at Romford. Being quick to set pace after leaving the fourth gate and then leading on got her the race in 36.52 seconds.

Her last and most recent winning stop was in the Coral On TV Stayers Final on 24th August, 2012 at Romford. Getting bumped and then gaining composure to lead settled the race in 35.51 seconds.

Dempsey calls?move 'dream come true'

By STEVE DOUGLAS

updated 10:20 p.m. ET Aug. 31, 2012

LONDON (AP) - U.S. soccer star Clint Dempsey is moving from Fulham to Tottenham, and national team captain Carlos Bocanegra was loaned from Glasgow Rangers to Racing Santander through the end of the season.

Dempsey was transferred Friday for a reported $9.5 million. The 29-year-old midfielder and forward a team-high 23 goals last season, including 17 in the Premier League, and had 60 goals in 5 1/2 seasons with Fulham.

Dempsey had refused to play for Fulham this season ahead of a widely expected move to Liverpool. After negotiations between Fulham and Liverpool foundered, he was able to secure a move across town to Spurs.

"Clint was a very influential player for Fulham over a number of seasons and the club thanks him for his contribution and wishes him well for the future," Fulham said.

Dempsey said he was excited to play for new Spurs manager Andre Vilas-Boas.

"To play under this head coach and play for this club is a dream come true. I want to make the most of it," Dempsey said on Tottenham's Twitter feed. "There are a lot of great players here, I'm looking forward to training and playing with them."

Dempsey said he had no ill will toward the Cottagers.

"A lot was said and written ahead of me leaving Fulham," Dempsey said. "It wasn't how it was portrayed, but that's in the past now and we move on. I want to thank the fans for everything, some of the best memories I've had in football, and thank the chairman for giving me the opportunity to come from the MLS and compete over here."

Tottenham also signed French national team goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon for $12.6 million, which means American Brad Friedel is likely to lose his starting job.

Bocanegra, a defender, left Rangers along with American midfielder Maurice Edu, who transferred to Stoke, where he will join countryman Geoff Cameron. American Alejando Bedoya also has left Rangers for Helsingborg since the club filed for bankruptcy and was demoted to Scotland's fourth tier.

Racing Santander is in Spain's second division.

"I'm excited to be able to get the opportunity to play in Spain," Bocanegra told Sky Sports News. "I'm also excited that's it's a loan, because I can come back. I enjoy it here. It's football and these things happen. I got to get on with it."

In other deals involving U.S. players, defender Oguchi Onyewu was loaned from Sporting Lisbon to Malaga, and forward Joe Gyau was sent from Hoffenheim to St. Pauli on a loan. Malaga is in this season's Champions League.

Elsewhere, English champion Manchester City was busy on a relatively quiet deadline day.

City, which has been quiet in the transfer market this summer by its standards, acted late to sign Brazil right back Maicon from Inter Milan, highly rated winger Scott Sinclair from Swansea and Serbia defender Matija Nastasic from Fiorentina.

In return, manager Roberto Mancini sold Netherlands holding midfielder Nigel de Jong to AC Milan and moved striker Roque Santa Cruz to Spanish team Malaga on a season-long loan.

Manchester United sold Dimitar Berbatov to Fulham, and Rafael van der Vaart left Tottenham to rejoin Hamburg.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton joined French league leader Marseille in a one-year loan deal that had been widely expected for several days.

Real Madrid and Barcelona had long tied up their main transfer dealings for the summer, although Barca sent Dutch winger Ibrahim Afellay to Schalke, and Madrid signed Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien on a season-long loan.

In Italy, the window closed after Denmark forward Nicklas Bendtner was loaned from Arsenal to champion Juventus, with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season, and free-agent Luca Toni rejoined Fiorentina just before the deadline.

Limousine Service for Airport Transportation

One of the best times to get and use limousine service is when you need transportation to and from the airport. There are some outstanding benefits to using this type of transportation instead of having a car rental or having someone pick you up. What you may find is that it is very easy and even affordable to get the type of transportation you need. Of course, it pays to have the right type of professional to work with for this need. Some companies even specialize in it.

No Waiting Involved

A key reason to turn to limousine service for your airport transportation is because you do not have to wait around for someone else to get things in order. You do not need to stand in a cab line to get a lift into town. You do not have to wait for a shuttle to get to and from the destination so it can pick you up next. It does not matter if this is a business trip or the family vacation. Waiting is something no one really wants to do.

Relax During the Drive

Even better, after getting off the plane, you may want to stretch your legs out and relax on the ride into town. Some of the best limos have every type of feature you need including televisions, stocked bars, privacy partitions, and stereo systems. You can open up the moon roof and relax while looking at the sky pass you by. On the other hand, if you are with that special someone, you can dim the lights just right. It is easy to find relaxation even after a long flight while someone else is navigating the streets.

Stylish Solution

Perhaps you have a business client coming into town. You want to impress this person. Using a limo service, you can do just that. You can have the limo waiting for the individual at the airport. He or she can ride in style back to the office or to a hotel. Not only is this impressive to that individual, but it also adds a lot of class to the way you do business. With a professional, trained, and experienced chauffeur behind the wheel, you can count on impressing anyone you have to pick up along the way.

Take into consideration what your options are. You could wait in line for a car rental or a shuttle service. You may feel that waiting for the next bus is the best option. However, the affordability of a limo service may be just what you need. Take the time to book one in advance so you do not have to think about your transportation needs again until you arrive in town and are ready to relax.

Oilcareers.com And Air Energi Reveal Results Of Global Oil & Gas Workforce Survey

- August 30, 2012:?

While the global oil and gas industry is experiencing a resurgence of activity, both employers and employees face a plethora of challenges, according to a joint report from OilCareers.com, the international job board for the oil and gas industry, in association with partner Air Energi, a global provider of manpower solutions to the energy sector.

Focusing on employment and salary trends in the energy sector throughout 2012 the report, entitled ?The Global Oil & Gas Workforce Survey: Expectations for hires and pay rates in the oil and gas industry H2 2012?, addresses the issues affecting the oil and gas industry and what they mean for the second half of 2012.

The survey, now one of the most eagerly anticipated temperature checks of global employers? perceptions of the energy industry, found operators and contractors have a largely positive outlook about the numerous, major projects underway or planned worldwide. Yet the research highlighted much concern over access to those with the necessary skills, a shortage of specific disciplines and pressure caused by local content regulations.

More than 170,000 oil and gas professionals were invited to participate from over 50 countries within the seven major oil and gas producing regions.

Offshore oil and gas projects worth approximately $87bn are currently planned or under way in the Middle East. The strong performance of the region?s oil and gas sector is reflected in its workforce, particularly as the region continues to offer some of the most competitive packages across the global energy industry.

Figures suggest that the Middle East leads the way in terms of operational focus; this highlights the requirement for more skilled workers to support the industry. Staffing practices that match international standards are gaining popularity to ensure the right talent is hired and that the new generation of professionals receive sufficient training.

Mark Guest, managing director of OilCareers.com, said: ?Despite significant economic challenges facing the global energy industry, the survey signals a positive outlook for the

sector with both mature and developing producing regions providing good reasons for continuing confidence and future optimism.

?Local content regulations ? where foreign operators are required to prove they have made every effort to recruit from local sources and to use indigenous business channels ? are however proving particularly challenging in a number of regions including Africa, the Americas and parts of Australasia.

?Internationally, operators are embarking on a large number of major investments, benefitting greatly from technological advancements. Yet major challenges remain with access to skilled labour a pivotal concern, combined with a global shortage of those with the necessary experience to help companies fully realise the potential of these opportunities.?

Middle East
The Middle East is home to nearly half of the world?s total gas reserves and almost a third of global oil production. As with other regions, there are the haves and the have-nots; those besieged by civil war or other economic repression first need to play catch-up, in terms of infrastructure and education of their local workforce, before becoming a larger presence on the global energy scene. Iraq and Saudi Arabia are driving forces in the region in terms of total investment and spending, particularly in drilling activities. The region boasts some of the lowest start-up and operational costs, and the large numbers of expats on contract here typically enjoy solid remuneration packages, longer contracts and pleasant quality of life.

Ian Langley, group executive chairman for Air Energi, said: ?The global flow of labour is a highly complex equation that has historically been answered through just-in-time solutions, largely dictated by the price of oil. Operators are taking a global approach to hiring practices, while proactively recruiting or reassigning talent as it becomes available.

?Many have stated the importance of looking to the young stream of professionals entering the industry, and the need to provide young graduates with internships and other opportunities. Field experience and a succession of short-term global assignments have also been observed as successful methods. Fast-tracking may help, but there are no shortcuts to hands-on experience.?

Africa
The survey found offshore West Africa has experienced huge growth, creating significant demand for subsea specialist engineers which are already in short supply worldwide. It is an

issue that has been compounded within the region by the expatriation of foreign workers required by local content regulations. These positions are being backfilled by local personnel

with on-the-job training as they become available, and many foreign personnel are being redeployed to similar projects in Asia Pacific where possible. Despite the many challenges, including personal safety and the high cost of living, the average rates in Africa have somewhat decreased, largely owing to the steady increase in local content within the industry.

Americas
Following months of uncertainty surrounding the US economy and offshore regulatory reforms, massive investment in the upstream sector is underway across North America, driven in particular by E&P activity in unconventional gas in the United States. Skills shortages are still palpable in North America, though less acutely felt there than elsewhere, in large part because Houston has long been the epicentre of talent for the oil and gas industry.
Rates remain competitive in North America, helping draw available talent, looking for attractive assignments in the region.

Asia Pacific
World-leading record investments are still being made offshore, some 40 per cent higher than in the North Sea. The demand for engineering and technical expertise is ongoing, not only for E&P work within the immediate region but in support of the seemingly unending string of major plays coming out of Australia. Refineries, chemical and power processing is growing at an unprecedented rate and APAC experienced the biggest jump in salaries into 2011, supported by strong regional commitment to boost production. Across the entire region, there is increasing demand for disciplines including: naval architects, subsea engineers, construction advisors, project control specialists, QA/QC, safety engineers and process engineers.

Australasia
Early in 2012, Ichthys joined Gorgon, Prelude, Gladstone and Wheatstone as the latest in a string of multi-billion dollar megaprojects, and it is anticipated that an additional six world-scale projects will be commissioned in the coming months. The region is already experiencing significant labour shortages and resultant cost overruns, and there are questions over how Australia will continue to feed its voracious appetite for investment and personnel. Fortunately for Australia, it has the reputation of being among the most sought-after destinations for expats seeking a term abroad, both in terms of lifestyle and technically challenging (resume boosting) experience.

FSU-Caspian
As offshore activity picks up worldwide, so do the issues of sovereignty and development rights among countries who share oceanic geography. As in Asia Pacific, contesting claims

for the reserves in Caspian waters may take years to resolve. The Caspian region may be the next big pre-salt contender, alongside West Africa and Brazil, but what remains to be determined is what portion belongs to each of the five countries in dispute: Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. As with other developing nations whose future security and wellbeing hinges on the development of its energy resources, the stakes are high.

Europe
Europe may not be figuring as prominently on the international E&P stage as other regions, yet its North Sea basins are still highly active. Any labour shortfall here is doubly complicated due to the age of several projects: while much of the world?s offshore activities are in start-up phases, in the North Sea they are mature and / or in need of decommissioning, placing a premium on project managers, structural and process engineers, planning and other site personnel. But thanks to new discoveries here, several projects are also entering FEED and related stages, particularly those based out of Norway.
