3 Stable Industries to Pursue in College

time fliesAt one point in time, people exclusively went to college in order to enrich their minds and learn the skills they needed to help them pursue their ?passions??even if those passions didn?t necessarily pay well. However, due to an unstable economy and? shift in what career choices the nation now deem as ?valuable,? more and more high school seniors are wanting to pursue a degree that will be able to provide job stability and a good pay check. While it is impossible to predict the future, there are certain industries that will remain relevant in the coming decades that pay rather well. So what are those key industries?

Health Care

Whether you choose to work in the business side of health care and become a health care manager or get a more hands-on profession and become a registered nurse, physical therapist, or ultra sound technician for example, there will be plethora of job opportunities. That?s because just about all professions in the healthcare industry are predicted to do extremely well within the next decade as technological advancements, medications and direct patient care improve. Not to mention, people are constantly aging and/or getting sick or injured. Thus there needs to be a staff of both healers and administrators who can tend to a patient?s unique needs. Registered nurses in particular are expected to see a whopping 26 % employment increase within the next decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On average, registered nurses with bachelor degrees earn a starting salary of $60,000.

Computer Programming/ Information Technology

As the world dependence on computers to help improve life continues to grow, so will the need for workers who can improve, repair, and maintain them. That said, computer programmers, software developers, and IT support specialists, for example, are highly valuable in this day and age and are typically compensated quite well for their knowledge and expertise. Just for a ball park figure, the Bureau states computer specialists earn about $60,000 to $70,000 a year depending on location and years of experience.

Green Tech-Sciences/ Business

Last but not least, those who choose to pursue fields that encourage sustainability will also see many opportunities after they graduate, especially those who pursue green technology and engineering. In the near future, the Bureau also predicts that international enterprises will also pick up and employers will looks for those in finance, compliance, and international taxation.
