50 Cents believes MMA and boxing can co-exist ? MMA News
While most boxing enthusiasts feel insecure with mixed martial arts? rise, rapper and boxing promoter 50 Cents believes otherwise. According Curtis Jackson, nicknamed 50 Cents, boxing and mixed martial arts can co-exist, as they both are completely different sport. Jackson asserts that mixed martial arts embraces boxing and wrestling too, while boxing is a completely one sided sport in its entirety.
?I think they (MMA and boxing) can (co-exist). And it surprises me the people that are actually involved in mixed martial arts,? said 50 Cents to MMA H.E.A.T.
?The disciplines involved in MMA allow parents to take their kids when they are very small. You see people that you'd be surprised that have actually acquired those skills at the real early stage of their lives. Then they add different boxing to it, and different wrestling formats and they get in there and they put it on. But, those guys don't look like the traditional fighter.?
Surprisingly, Jackson has good words for MMA, while most boxing enthusiasts believe the rise of the sport has pressed boxing to a certain extent. It is a general perception among boxing fans that the rise of MMA has hurt the popularity of boxing. Right now, MMA and boxing stand as the two most popular combat sports in the business. Jackson believes they both are different and they should not be compared since MMA has a different route altogether.
Jackson was recently involved in a joint promotion with unbeaten American fighter and the current WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, the partnership did not stand for long, as a dispute compelled Jackson to walk away. Now, he is working as an independent promoter, trying to make boxing a better business.
It should be noted here that Jackson has iterated his love for boxing time and again. Despite the fact that he is in no business relationship with Mayweather, he still is an active participant in boxing events. Right now, he is working on expanding his promotion in order to get more fighters and develop a better platform for those who are willing to take the sport seriously.
