The Trends in Online Collaboration Today - Free Ebooks & New ...

Posted by Mr. Hachis | On: Dec 01 2012

Good, meaningful work is often said to be at the very foundation of success. As such, online collaboration tools that make this possible, are one of the most popular areas in software development today. You'll find great products in online collaboration from big-name software vendors like salesforce and Microsoft, and small startup names like Central Desktop and Trello.

Whatever product you look at, you'll find there are certain trends in online collaboration that are evident in any of these.

Not everyone agrees on what online collaboration actually means. To some, it's the thing that Google Docs allows them to do ? creating, sharing and managing documents together. To others, it's doing business networking on social networking software. To others, it's managing an entire project by allowing a whole team to collaborate online together.

To a lot of people, the very idea of online collaboration seems too difficult to comprehend. They feel that to get too many people in on a job can do no good. Today's trend in online collaboration though, tends towards proving this wrong. The most successful products have a number of features built in that make online collaboration the main answer, instead of the other way round.

Even if the whole world does push towards cloud-based collaboration, a lot of it still does take place inside businesses ? on the corporate network. A lot of companies are not ready at this point to eight transition to the cloud and let it all hang out. Even so, even these companies do need to open up to a certain extent.

And so, software products like Microsoft SharePoint allow businesses to do both things at the same time. You can specify which parts of a project gets shared with consultants and the like over the cloud, and which ones strictly stay private.

Everything in the world today seems to want to move away from computers and towards phones and tablets. These devices have only been around for about five years now; and already, the rest of mating that people spend more time on these devices than on the computer.

Almost all web-based online collaboration software today do vocal. Products from companies like MindJet have a large presence here. They don't simply have clunky apps to offer. They have apps written in native mobile code.

And finally, since no one's really going to be really interested in online collaboration unless it can actually be proven that doing this kind of thing helps real productivity, more and more software is able to do this.
