Texas nabs top spot for exports for 11th year

Texas continues to lead the nation in exports, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Texas has been named the No. 1 exporting state in the U.S. for the 11th year in a row, according to 2012 annual trade data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Texas exports last year totaled $265 billion ? a 5.4 percent increase from the $251 billion in exports tallied in 2011. Meanwhile, U.S. exports grew 4.3 percent to $1.54 trillion in 2012.

The state?s top export markets were Mexico ($94.8 billion), Canada ($23.7 billion), China ($10.3 billion), Brazil ($10 billion) and the Netherlands ($9.5 billion).

Texas? top exporting industries in 2012 were petroleum and coal products, chemicals, computer and electronic products, non-electrical machinery and transportation equipment.
